The Girl Who Blogs 2012-10-14T10:43:45Z http://www.thegirlwhoblogs.com/feed/atom/ WordPress TheGirlWhoBlogs <![CDATA[American Psycho Gifs]]> http://www.thegirlwhoblogs.com/?p=825 2012-10-14T10:37:04Z 2012-08-24T12:33:47Z American Psycho. One of the most disturbing movies ever? Maybe. In terms of character development though, this was probably one of those rare movies in which you’d find the audience laughing out loud at a psychopath. Patrick Bateman is completely and utterly insane, there’s nothing in the movie which leads us to believe otherwise. He’s detached from basic human emotions, he’s void of any kind of compassion or care and he’s got a lust for money, power and sex.

The thing is though, he’s also completely hilarious, dorky, insanely hot (see what I did there?) and likes listening to Whitney Houston. He isn’t scared to admit it, or provide lengthy lectures on that fact before he kills you either!

I’m not ashamed to admit that I adore Christian Bale. I know he gets a bit of a bad time with the press due to him being, well, quite nasty, shall we say? to people at times but he’s still a great actor and often shows his kinder nature (visiting the victims of the shooting at the Batman screening in hospital after fans appealed to him via a social networking site?) and if there’s one man who could single-handedly save the 50 shades of grey movie from being beyond lame, it would be him. Maybe. It might still suck.

Here’s some of my favourite American Psycho gifs. Remember, if you ever need an excuse in life, just follow Patrick Bateman’s example and say “I’ve got to return some videotapes back to the store” sure, no-one uses videotapes anymore, but don’t let that put you off! That simple comment provides some of the best scene exits ever in the movie!

You could also break up with someone using some brutal honesty – ‘I’m sorry, but:

If you’re feelin’ blue just look at a picture of Patrick Bateman in his plastic raincoat, doing a little dance. It’ll cheer you right up! Never fails.

Perhaps pull this face at someone mid convo? Amazing:

It would be better than this one:

Just don’t try and feed a stray cat to an ATM machine, that’s not cool!

Patrick Bateman does this things because:

He also has some interesting hobbies:

And finally, let’s just all take a minute to appreciate THIS:

TheGirlWhoBlogs <![CDATA[Daily Inspiration 04/09/2011]]> http://www.thegirlwhoblogs.com/?p=278 2012-10-14T10:41:15Z 2011-09-04T23:51:56Z Sometimes we all need to be inspired and reminded that things are never as bad as they seem. Inspiration can be found in the strangest of places. Every day (more like every day that I remember to do so) I’ll pop a selection of images on the blog that for one reason or another mean something to me, inspire me or that I just really like! I hope they bring a bit of inspiration into your day, in some tiny little way. I claim no ownership or copyright over these pics, they all belong to their original creators.

TheGirlWhoBlogs <![CDATA[Paris Food Pics!]]> http://www.thegirlwhoblogs.com/?p=176 2012-10-14T10:42:02Z 2011-09-01T10:49:47Z I didn’t get to sample much of the lovely food pictured in this post when we went to Paris recently, but every shop window we saw and market we went past I couldn’t resist snapping away at some of these amazing looking foods and cakes, so I thought I’d share!

Don’t blame me if you’re hungry after this post…

In the pictures above we have various cakes and pastries from the patisserie shops around Paris, Macarons (expensive ones in every different flavour you could imagine) Fromage (cheese) hotdogs which seem to be all the rage over there. Noooo idea why or what they taste like lol. I’ve also added the pics of the Crepes (with Nuttella which I did indeed try and they are amazing!)

TheGirlWhoBlogs <![CDATA[A Day of Greek Food Cooking]]> http://www.thegirlwhoblogs.com/?p=113 2012-10-14T10:42:54Z 2011-08-31T21:22:56Z No, I’m totally not greek, but for about 5 of my teenage years I worked in a greek restaurant. I both loved it and hated it at the same time, part of me loved being in the busy atmosphere, thought of as part of the huge greek family and getting to stay in the family villa in Cyprus was an obvious plus point of course.

The down sides were that it was damn hard work and very long hours with not a whole lot of money in return. It saw me through well though, gave me enough money to afford my own little two bed flat in town (also owned by the greeks and right above the restaurant, handy for them, not so handy for me when I wanted to escape on a rare day off lol) and kept me out of trouble, I mean I literally had no free time to get in trouble.

So whilst working there I did a bit of everything, I worked in the kitchen as a not so glam washing up assistant, did the food prep, helped with the cooking of meals and the odd bit of cleaning. I also did some really bad waitressing, but it was soon to be discovered that I’m far too clumsy for this.

I got all my meals for free, so my food bills were low and made some great friends, some of whom I still keep in touch with now. I had a lovely holiday for two weeks in an amazing family villa and actually found that despite my geeky ways, I loved the club life of Ayia Napa, granted I did spend more time at this awesome rock club they had there (I would love to go back just for the atmosphere of that one place if it still exists, that was my idea of the perfect night out with quality rock tunes) rather than the more dancey, rave type clubs.

EDIT: OMG it totally does still exist and HERE it is, it still looks just as fun as when I was there. They play the most awesome tunes and the atmosphere is electric. Go!

So, back on track – whilst working a the restaurant I learned how to make a few greek meals and deserts, and every now and then I get a craving for them. My daughter loves most greek food and my husband likes some of it but is rather more picky. Usually when I make these meals I have to cook up extra to share with my mum and sister as they also seem to share my passion for greek food, maybe its a nostalgia thing for us all.

So, here’s what I made yesterday, I usually do a Moussaka at the same time when I make this dish but I didn’t have time so instead we have greek salad (not pictured as it was in the fridge) stuffed vine leaves (Dolmades) and stuffed tomatoes and peppers with the vine leaf stuffing, feta cheese, herbs, olive oil and a vine leaf for flavour.

The vine leaves soaking:

The Mixture in the pan cooking (If anyone writes a recipe I can try and write it down but basically do it from memory, it includes lamb mince, tomatoes, greek herbs, seasoning, onions, courgette, rice and probably some other stuff I can’t remember lol)

The cooked stuffed toms and peppers:

And the stuffed, cooked vine leaves, rolled into small parcels. They are an aquired taste do to the destinct flavour of the leaves but very, very moreish!

So there you have it, some more ramblings from me. Thanks for reading and feel free to send me any of your own greek recipe ideas if you have some, I’m always looking for more to try out!

TheGirlWhoBlogs <![CDATA[Primark Gloves & Burlesque Nails.]]> http://www.thegirlwhoblogs.com/?p=73 2012-10-14T10:43:45Z 2011-08-31T19:59:32Z We’ve been getting ready for Halloween today, and whilst I’m not dressing up (I wear enough black on a normal day!) I decided to re-do my nails in the O.P.I shade ‘Sparkle-iscious’ and put on my amazingly cool new purple fingerless gloves from Primark.

Click after the jump for some more pics and check back later for some Halloween themed posts!
I hunted down these gloves after Carmen (another fab blogger) mentioned them on her page and couldn’t resist them at a seriously cheap £2.00 from Primark. God bless that store.

The nail polish is one I was sent for review a while back and I love how the purple and red glitters totally match with my gloves and my watch lol. That’s how sad I am!
